Rainy Day Preschool Activities: Building Giant Structures with Colored Plastic Cups

My wonderful co-teacher brought this idea with her to our program, and it's so smart, fun, and inexpensive.  Children can work collaboratively, build gross motor skills, sort colors, experiment with balance, and so much more.  Plus, the resulting structures look incredibly beautiful.

DIY Reggio Preschool Color Light Blocks

I've been coveting a set of color light blocks for our class, but they can be a bit pricey.  Luckily, I found this wonderful tutorial (and adapted it a little.)  You simply hot glue rectangles of transparent colored plastic (I cut up a set of colored plastic binder dividers) between 8 Jenga style blocks (I used two tins full of the Pavilion Jumbling Tower sets from Toys R Us, which seem to be in stock all year round for about $7 each.)  The result looks super pretty, especially when the children stack them up in the windows.

Rainbow Yarn Wrapped Branch Tipi Tent

How absolutely gorgeous is Natalie Miller's creation?  I think this idea is SO great, and perfect for a kidlet classroom, bedroom, or playroom.

DIY Anthropologie-Inspired Initial Monogram Twig Ornaments

DIY Yarn-Wrapped Twig Initial Ornaments

Anthropologie is the best store ever.  I mean EVER.

Last year, they came out with these darling Alphabranch Monogram Ornaments.  For some reason my initial always sells out superfast, so I was left Alphabranch Monogram Ornamentless.  This weekend I discovered an awesome DIY for similar ornaments, so now I know how I'm going to be spending the Micheal's giftcard that I recently got for catsitting! You might want to make some, too.  I'm thinking they'd make really supercute gift toppers.

Adorable Vintagey Preschooler Puzzles

Dwell Studio makes excellent retro-feeling designs.
I've found vintage Judy Instructo gems like this one on Etsy.

Supercute vintage Playskool puzzles are also on Etsy.

Another Dwell Studio bird numbers puzzle.

More Judy Instructo awesomeness.

I'm a nerd and I like old-timey wooden children's puzzles.
I also sort of wish my name was Judy Instructo...
