Long Beach Halloween Dog Parade 2012

This year's Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade is the afternoon of Sunday, October 28. The start/finish is at Livingston Park (here in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach.) Costumed pups will parade around Second Street, then meet back at the park for the float & costume awards (and all sorts of fun puppy-stuff vendors, rescue groups, pet photography & door prize giveaways, too!) This is a big family event that draws creative kooky sorts from all over... you'll see some of the cutest, strangest, most imaginative costumes ever...so don't forget your camera! Registration is available via the link above (spectating is free!)

Geeky Stuff Alert: Midget Vampire Dinosaur

Read More Here.
Meet Pegomastax Africanus.  It was less than a foot tall. Weighed the same as a cat. It had big, sharp teeth. And a beak! Paleontologist Paul Sereno describes it as a “bird, a vampire and a porcupine,”

Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkin Hand Play Song

Sometimes kidlets can have a tricky time understanding the difference between the word "pumpkin" and "jack-o-lantern."  This hand play song helps make the vocabulary a little more clear (and a little more fun!) It's also good for motor skills development, and body part identification (during the song, just point to your eyes, nose, mouth, and teeth when prompted.)

Did You Ever See A Pumpkin?
(Sing to the tune of "Did You Ever See A Lassie?")

"Did you ever see a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin
Did you ever see a pumpkin with no face at all?
With no eyes, no nose, no mouth, and no teeth?
Did you ever see a pumpkin with no face at all?
So I made a jack-o-lantern, jack-o-lantern, jack-o-lantern,
I made a jack-o-lantern with a big funny face!
With big eyes, a big nose, a big mouth, and big teeth.
I made a jack-o-lantern with a big funny face!"

*Try repeating the song, substituting "big" with "small," using your "small voice" to reflect the difference. You can continue on with other words, too, like "grumpy," "silly," etc.
