Preschool in Nature: Winter 2014

Yippee! Fall enrollment for the Preschool in Nature program is now open at the Nature Center (Call 562 570-1745 to sign up or get on a waitlist. Pre-registration is required, as these classes fill up quickly.)

As always, each day centers around a different nature-related theme, creative exploration and animal interaction activities. Children gain basic school skills (like counting, colors, and socialization), and explore natural treasures through music, movement, stories, art, and open-ended discovery (all within our 102.5 acres of wildlife habitat, trails, grasslands, and ponds .)

Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays,
10-11:30am

"A Long Winter's Nap" - Jan 7-30
"Love is in the Air" - Feb 11 - Mar 6

For Potty-trained children, ages 3-5

Calling all Nature Nerdlings

The Nature Center's week-long, Super Science Summer Classes are now open for enrollment for "big kids" ages 6-9. The classes are very much like my preschool classes, with lots of emphasis on hands-on, open-ended activities. Each week is taught by a different naturalist or contract teacher, and features a specific nature-related topic; and, like always, this year there are some really fun themes. Preregistration is required, as classes do sell out.

$50 per week-long, Monday-Friday session.
Ages 6-7: 9:30-11:30 am
Ages 7-9: 1-3 pm

Animal Transformers - June 27-July 1
Bug Story - July 11-15
From the Inside Out - July 25-29
3D Photography - August 8-12
Reptiles Galore - August 22-26

Register at (562) 570-3111 or online with recconnect.

    Green Gifts Workshops

Scared of the malls during the holiday season? Instead of subjecting yourself to claustrophobia (and spending lots of money on stuff like creepy fruitcakes and musical neckties), consider making a few gifts this year. Stop by the El Dorado Nature Center's Alternative Giving Exhibit for lots of easy-to-make ideas.

The wonderful Herbalist Jule James is teaching an HERBAL GIFTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS class, too. In this workshop, students will make and take home a wide range of herbal baths, teas, creams and soaps. December 7, 2008, noon-2 pm. Please call 570-3111 for rates, information and registration. Her workshops are fun, informative, and ideal for noncrafty types, too!
