St. Patrick's Day Preschool Shamrock Songs

FIVE LITTLE SHAMROCKS Spoken Counting Song:
(Count off with fingers, or use felt pieces.)

"1 green shamrock, in the morning dew,
Another one sprouted, and then there were... 2!
2 green shamrocks, growing beneath a tree,
Another one sprouted and then there were... 3!
3 green shamrocks, by the cottage door,
Another one sprouted,
And then there were... 4!
4 green shamrocks, near a beehive
Another one sprouted,
And then there were... 5!
5 little shamrocks, bright and emerald green,
Think of all the luck these shamrocks just might bring!"

IF YOU'RE WEARING GREEN AND KNOW IT Movement Song:(Sing to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It.")

"If you're wearing green and know it, clap your hands,
If you're wearing green and know it, clap your hands.
If you're wearing green and know it, then your hands will surely show it. If you're wearing green and know it, clap your hands."

Repeat, inserting other movements:
"If you're wearing green and know it, spin around..."
"If you're wearing green and know it, shout "Hooray!...""
"If you're wearing green and know it, stamp your feet..."

SHAMROCK, SHAMROCK Felt Story Counting Song:
(Sing to the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle.")

"How many Shamrocks do you see?
Can you count them, one, two, three?
How many big ones?
How many small?
Maybe we can count them all!
How many Shamrocks do you see?
Everybody count with me!"

(After singing, call on a child to come up to the felt board and sort out the big felt shamrocks, then count them together as a class. Do the same for the smalls. Then count the total together.)

Monday Music: Summer Magic in Winter

Lovelovelove Summer Magic. You really can't go wrong with Hayley Mills and Burl Ives. I remember watching this movie as a superlittlekid and wishing I could live in Beulah.

A song for the kids (my preschoolers love dancing to this one):

And one for the kids-at-heart:

Fairytale Wedding Pictorial

Love these photos! I'm now convinced that a wedding's somehow just not complete without whimsical-swishy dresses, tiny piglets, and butterflies of unusual size...

Words of Wisdom Wednesday: Watch With Glittering Eyes

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”

Style Muse: Rita Hayworth

While going through Rita Hayworth photos I discovered so many shots of her barefoot, or doing outdoorsy things, and, curiously, also lots of pictures where she's holding a tea cup! Over her movie career, Rita changed her hair color eight times. She was married five times; once to Orson Wells, and once to Prince Aly Khan, with whom she had a bitter custody battle over their daughter Yasmin:

"Nothing will make me give up Yasmin's chance to live here in America among our precious freedoms and habits," declared Hayworth. "There isn't any amount of money in the entire world for which it is worth sacrificing."

Flower Petal Pretty (Solitary Bee Nests)

"Scientists have recently discovered a rare, solitary type of bee that makes tiny little nests by plastering together flower petals. Each nest is a multicolored, textured little cocoon - a papier-mache husk surrounding a single egg, and protecting it while it metamorphoses into an adult."

Cool, huh? Read the whole NPR article here.

Style Muse: Quinn From Glee

Glee can sometimes be an annoying show. But sometimes I watch it anyway (shh...) because in a world filled mostly with superscary CSI/SVU/Blahblahblah TV, Glee is 100%... fluffy. And also because of the clothes. In particular, Quinn's clothes. This character has the most classically-stylish wardrobe of any high schooler being portrayed on television today. Dare I say ever. No really. Take a look:

Yay for dresses and cardis!

Valentinesy Tunes: Lovely Lily Frost

Valentine's Day calls for Lily. I've babbled about her before, but she's just so great. Her music always has a romantic, whimsical feel about it, even though she skips around different genres (which I really love!)

Learn about her here:

Happy Valentine's Day

"If I meet my love, and we part,
We'll meet again, like we did before.
The sweet darkness I find
Fumbling around deep in my memories."
